Matt Dixon was born and raised on the South Coast of New South Wales, growing up surrounded by a lively music and arts community, in the small town of Candelo.
Moving to Canberra, he studied Jazz Guitar at the Australian National University School of Music, and fast became a busy and active member of the folk and indie music scene.
After completion of his formal studies, Dixon commenced an extended stay in Nashville and New York City under the tutelage of international musicians, including Chris Eldridge (The Punch Brothers).
In 2014, he settled in Melbourne and began work as a guitar teacher, as well as playing electric guitar, baritone guitar and pedal steel.
Soon exploding onto the local music scene as a session and touring musician, his skills, versatility and ease as a multi-instrumentalist have become highly sought after.
Following his debut at Americana Music Festival in Nashville with Emilee South, Matt Dixon is currently involved in recording and touring projects with South, Broads, James Kenyon and Tobias Hengeveld. He has also worked as a session and touring player for Heath Cullen, Josh Rennie-Hynes, The Hunter Express, The Rockdogs Supergroup, James Di Fabrizio (Wolf & Willow), Emma Heeney, Sean McMahon, Amarina Waters, Tammy Haider, Brooke Taylor, The Burley Griffin, Wallflower, and Eliza Hull, both nationally and abroad.
